A lateral lunge loaded with the free end of a floor-anchored barbell held at the chest. It trains the quads and glutes of the stepping leg and stretches the adductors of the straight leg, building side-to-side leg strength.

Also known as: Landmine Goblet Lateral Lunge, Landmine Side Lunge

How to do the Landmine Lateral Lunge

  1. Hold the bar end at chest height with both hands.
  2. Step out wide to one side, toes forward.
  3. Sit your hips back into the bent leg, other leg straight.
  4. Push back to standing, then switch sides after all reps.
Full technique — 7 steps
  1. Stand tall with feet about hip width and hold the sleeve end of the landmine bar at chest height with both hands.
  2. Step out wide to one side and plant that foot flat with toes pointed forward.
  3. Shift your hips back into the stepping leg as that knee bends and the other leg stays long.
  4. Lower until your thigh is roughly parallel to the floor, keeping the bar at your chest.
  5. Drive through the whole foot of the bent leg to push yourself back to standing.
  6. Bring your feet back together and stand tall before the next rep.
  7. Complete all reps on one side, then switch legs and repeat.
