A push-up with resistance bands hung from a power rack and looped under your chest, so the bands take part of your bodyweight. Trains the chest, triceps, and front delts for lifters who cannot yet do full push-ups.

Also known as: Resistance Band Assisted Push-Up, Assisted Push-Up

How to do the Band Assisted Push-Up

  1. Loop the bands from the rack bar under your chest.
  2. Place your hands slightly wider than your shoulders on the floor.
  3. Your body should form a straight line from head to heels.
  4. Bend your elbows to lower your chest toward the floor.
  5. Push back up to the starting position, straightening your arms fully.
Full technique — 7 steps
  1. Hang two band loops from a bar of the power rack so they reach your chest in a plank.
  2. Place the bands under your chest and armpits, then set your hands on the floor slightly wider than shoulder width.
  3. Straighten your legs, squeeze your glutes, and keep your body in one line.
  4. Lower yourself until your chest is just above the floor with elbows angled back.
  5. Let the bands support part of your weight without letting your hips sag.
  6. Press through your palms and drive back to a straight-arm plank.
  7. Use a lighter band as you get stronger, until you no longer need one.
