A standing biceps curl with a resistance band handle in each hand, curling one arm at a time. The palm turns up as the arm curls, and the band keeps tension on the biceps through the whole range.

Also known as: Alternating Band Curl, Alternating Resistance Band Biceps Curl

How to do the Alternating Resistance Band Curl

  1. Stand on the band, a handle in each hand, arms at your sides.
  2. Curl one handle toward your shoulder, turning the palm up.
  3. Slowly lower it to full elbow extension, then curl the other arm.
  4. Keep your elbows by your sides and your torso still.
Full technique — 8 steps
  1. Stand on the band with feet about hip width apart and a handle in each hand.
  2. Let your arms hang at your sides with palms facing your thighs and a little band tension.
  3. Keep your torso tall and your elbows close to your ribs.
  4. Curl one handle toward the same-side shoulder, turning the palm up as the elbow bends.
  5. Raise until the forearm is nearly vertical and the biceps fully shorten.
  6. Lower that handle back to full elbow extension without swinging your torso.
  7. Curl the opposite handle the same way while the first arm stays at your side.
  8. Continue alternating sides, keeping each rep smooth and matching the range on both arms.

Common mistakes
