A forearm plank in which you rock your body forward and back over your forearms, targeting the abs. Moving the shoulders past the elbows makes it harder than a static plank.

Also known as: body saw, plank body saw, forearm plank rock

How to do the Body Saw Plank

  1. Start face down, resting on your forearms with elbows beneath shoulders.
  2. Lift onto your toes so your body forms one straight line.
  3. Rock back until your shoulders move behind your elbows.
  4. Rock forward until your shoulders move in front of your elbows.
Full technique — 8 steps
  1. Set up face down with forearms on the floor and elbows directly under shoulders.
  2. Extend your legs behind you with feet together and rest on your toes.
  3. Lift your body so shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles form one straight line.
  4. Tighten your stomach, squeeze your glutes, and keep your ribs in line with your pelvis.
  5. Push through your forearms to rock your body back until your shoulders move behind your elbows.
  6. Pull with your forearms to rock forward until your shoulders move in front of your elbows.
