A standing band exercise targeting the obliques. A band anchored low at your side pulls your trunk into a side bend, and you straighten back to upright against it.

Also known as: band side bend, standing band side bend, banded side bend, band oblique side bend

How to do the Resistance Band Side Bend

  1. Anchor the band low beside you, handle in the nearer hand.
  2. Let the band pull your trunk sideways toward the anchor.
  3. Straighten back to upright using the obliques on your far side.
  4. Lower into the bend slowly; switch sides after all reps.

  2. Stand with feet about shoulder width apart and let your free arm hang at your side.
  3. Let the band pull your trunk sideways toward the anchor, keeping your chest facing forward.
  4. Tighten your stomach and bend only sideways, without twisting or leaning forward.
  5. Contract the opposite-side obliques to bring your torso back to upright.
