3. Row the dumbbell toward your hip, driving your elbow up and back.
4. Lower until your arm is straight, then switch arms after your reps.

### Full technique — 7 steps

1. Stand in a long staggered stance facing a bench or rack, front knee bent and back leg straight.
2. Support yourself with the free hand on the edge of the bench and hold a dumbbell in the other hand.
3. Hinge at the hips until your torso is angled forward with a neutral spine.
4. Let the dumbbell hang straight down with your palm facing your body.
5. Row the dumbbell toward your lower ribs or hip by driving your elbow up and back.
6. Lower the dumbbell until your arm is straight again without twisting your torso or losing your hinge.
7. Complete all reps on one side, then switch arms and match the same number of reps.

- Shrugging the shoulder at the top

## Form cues

- Elbow close to body
