- Glutes: 8/10
- Hip adductors: 5/10

- Calves: 3/10

## How to do the Jefferson Split Squat

1. Straddle the bar, one foot in front and one behind.
2. Grip overhand, arms straight, bar hanging between your legs.
3. Lower your body until your back knee nearly touches the floor.
4. Push through your front foot to return to the starting position.
5. Finish reps, then switch sides.

### Full technique — 7 steps

1. Place a loaded barbell on the floor and stand over it with one foot in front of the bar and one behind.
2. Squat down and grip the bar overhand with hands about shoulder width apart.
3. Stand up with the bar hanging between your legs, torso upright and arms straight.
4. Keep most of your weight over the front foot and rise onto the ball of the back foot.
5. Tighten your stomach and lower straight down until the back knee nears the floor.
6. Drive through the whole front foot to stand back up without stepping out of position.
7. Complete all reps on one side, then switch legs and repeat.

## Common mistakes

- Pushing off the rear foot instead of loading the front leg.
- Pulling the bar up with the arms
- Leaning the torso excessively forward and losing balance at the bottom.
- Letting the front knee cave inward during the descent and drive.
- Stance set too narrow

## Form cues

- Lower straight down
- Torso stays tall
- Arms stay straight
- Front foot stays planted
- Knee points where foot points
