## How to do the Horizontal Leg Press

1. Sit against the backrest, feet flat on the footplate, and grip the handles.
2. Push through your feet to slide the seat back, legs nearly straight.
3. Stop short of full knee extension so your muscles keep the load.
4. Let the seat return slowly until your knees reach about 90 degrees.

### Full technique — 7 steps

1. Sit on the machine with your back against the backrest and grip the handles beside the seat.
2. Place both feet flat on the footplate about shoulder width apart, knees bent to about 90 degrees.
3. Keep your knees pointing the same way as your feet.
4. Press through your whole foot to slide the seat back until your legs are nearly straight.
5. Stop short of full knee extension without letting your hips lift off the seat.
6. Let the seat return under control until your knees are back to about 90 degrees.
7. Begin the next rep from the same bent-knee position without bouncing the weight stack.

## Common mistakes

- Knees collapsing inward
- Cutting the range short
- Bouncing out of the bottom
- Snapping the knees straight

## Form cues

- Push through whole foot
- Knees point where feet point
- Keep back on backrest
- Don't slam the weight stack
