## How to do the Dumbbell Pistol Squat

1. Hold dumbbells at your sides.
2. Extend free leg forward, keeping it off the floor.
3. Lower on your standing leg with your torso upright.
4. Drive through your whole foot to stand tall.
5. Finish reps, then switch sides.

### Full technique — 7 steps

1. Stand tall on one leg and hold a dumbbell in each hand at your sides.
2. Extend your free leg straight forward and keep it off the floor.
3. Tighten your stomach and keep your torso upright.
4. Lower under control by bending your standing knee and pushing your hips back.
5. Lower until your hips reach at least knee level or your deepest stable position.
6. Drive through your whole foot to stand up, extending knees and hips together.
7. Complete all reps on one side, then switch legs and repeat.

## Common mistakes

- Letting the free foot touch the floor during descent
- Letting the standing heel lift at the bottom
- Letting the standing knee collapse inward during the descent
- Leaning the torso excessively forward and losing balance at the bottom.
- Stopping above a consistent deep squat position
- Using body momentum to stand up

## Form cues

- Drive through whole foot
- Torso stays tall
- Knee points where foot points
- Keep free leg lifted
- Control the bottom
