## How to do the Barbell Sumo Squat

1. Place the barbell across your upper back, gripping it firmly with your hands.
2. Step back and set your feet wide, toes turned out.
3. Lower until your hips reach at least knee level, knees pointing where your feet point.
4. Press back up to a standing position, straightening your legs and hips fully.

### Full technique — 7 steps

1. Set the bar in a rack just below shoulder height and step underneath it.
2. Place the bar across your upper traps or rear delts, then grip it evenly outside your shoulders.
3. Stand tall to unrack the bar, then take two to three controlled steps back.
4. Set your feet well wider than shoulder width with toes turned out, balanced over the middle of your foot.
5. Tighten your stomach and upper back, then bend your hips and knees together.
6. Squat down until your hips reach at least knee level, keeping your knees pointing the same way as your feet.
7. Drive upward through your whole foot to full hip and knee extension.
