## Muscles worked

- Obliques: 9/10
- Lower back: 5/10
- Abs: 4/10

## How to do the Barbell Side Bend

1. Stand tall, barbell across your upper back, wide overhand grip.
2. Bend sideways to one side, letting the bar tilt with you.
3. Return to upright, then bend to the other side.

### Full technique — 7 steps

1. Stand tall with feet about hip width apart and a barbell across your upper back.
2. Grip the bar wide with an overhand grip, hands well outside your shoulders.
3. Tighten your stomach and keep your shoulders level.
4. Bend sideways at the trunk to one side, letting the bar tilt with your torso.
5. Lower until you reach your comfortable end range without twisting or leaning forward.
6. Contract the opposite-side obliques to bring your torso back to upright.
7. Repeat to the other side, alternating sides each rep with hips and legs still.

## Common mistakes

- Turning the chest during reps
- Leaning forward instead of sideways
- Letting hips drift sideways
- Bouncing out of the bottom
- Bar resting on the neck

## Form cues

- Bend only sideways
- Keep chest facing forward
- Move through the trunk
- Keep hips mostly still
