## How to do the Barbell Overhead Squat

1. Hold the bar overhead with a wide grip and straight arms.
2. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, toes slightly outward, to find your balance.
3. Lower until your hips reach at least knee level without letting your torso fold forward.
4. Press back up to a standing position, straightening your legs and hips fully.
5. Keep the bar over the middle of your foot the whole time.

### Full technique — 8 steps

1. Set the bar in a rack just below shoulder height and step underneath it.
2. Place the bar across your upper back and take a wide overhand grip, hands well outside your shoulders.
3. Stand tall to unrack the bar, then take two to three controlled steps back.
4. Set your feet about shoulder width, turn toes slightly out, and balance over the middle of your foot.
5. Press the bar straight overhead until your elbows are fully extended and the bar sits over the middle of your foot.
6. Tighten your stomach and upper back, then begin by bending hips and knees together.
7. Squat down until your hips reach at least knee level without losing position.
8. Drive upward through your whole foot, keeping your knees pointing the same way as your feet and chest rising with hips.
